Site informationThe symposium is to be held at Tvärminne Zoological Station. Tvärminne Zoological Station is a unit of Helsinki University. It is located at Hanko peninsula, northern Baltic Proper, approximately 140 km west from Helsinki city. For further site information visit http://luoto.tvarminne.helsinki.fi/english/index.html. Ojamo limestone quarry is located approximately 100 km SE of Tvärminne, near town of Lohja. It is maintained by Innofocus http://www.innofocus.fi/index.asp?id=597.

Symposium venue

The symposium consists of two parts. The first part consists of introduction to Finnish scientific diving education, facilities and actual diving in limestone quarry and/or the Baltic Sea. The second part consists of presentations and poster sessions.

We will have a dive in Tvärminne Zoological Station area, northern Baltic Sea. In regard to symposium themes, we plan to dive on natural conservation site on archaeological target. Alternatively, depending on weather conditions, we will visit Ojamo lime stone quarry, which is a main training site for Finnish scientific and professional divers. There will also be a volunteer trip to Ojamo including introductive presentations and a possibility for intro dive to see the underwater facilities.

We encourage you bring at least your own dive suit, fins and mask, and instruments & regulator if possible. Since it may be difficult to carry heavy loads, we provide: weight belt, cylinder, boyancy control jacket and air filling 200 / 300 bar.

Presentations and poster sessions, as well as social activities are to be held at Tvärminne Zoological Station day after dive session.
